An Alaska Airlines flight attendant was fired after recording a TikTok video of herself twerking while at work. The 27-second video, set to the song “Ghetto” by E.K.E. featuring TruCarr, went viral and caught her employer’s attention. She was accused of violating their social media policy.
Nelle Diala shared the video on her social media account, captioning it, ” Ghetto bih till i D-I-E, don’t let the uniform fool you.”
Diala claims the “lighthearted video” was shot during a layover, and she was celebrating the end of probation. However, she was terminated without warning or discussion despite explaining that the video wasn’t intended to harm anyone or the company. After losing her job, Diala set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds.
After being fired, Diala reposted the twerking video with the new caption: “Can’t even be yourself anymore, without the world being so sensitive. What’s wrong with a little twerk before work, people act like they never did that before.” She added the hashtag #discriminationisreal.
The incident has sparked a debate about social media policies and personal freedom. While some support Diala’s right to express herself, others argue that her actions were unprofessional and reflected poorly on the airline. Diala’s fundraiser has raised over $1,700, but she’s still short of her $12,000 goal.
